Raise the Roof
Raise the Roof Choir
Raise the Roof originated as a choir of around 60 local young people aged from 7 years and up. Since their formation in 2012, singing and performing throughout a period of just over 3 years, they raised over £75,000 and built a school in Uganda in 2016 which is currently attended by approximately 500 children. The choir made their debut appearance in the Braid Arts Centre, Ballymena in January 2013. Since then they have given numerous performances in venues such as Stormont, the Dalriada festival, and St Anne’s cathedral, Belfast. The choir is diverse and members come from all sectors of the community. Since Covid 19 and all the restrictions which came with that, the choir emerged as a group of young people aged 14yrs and up who had mostly been part of the original choir. They commenced again in September 2018 with a new target to build a primary school in the Lilongwe district of Malawi in partnership with E3 Initiative. Currently in this region of Mpingu there are only 11 primary schools but over 16,000 children! Raise the Roof believe this project will make a huge difference to this entire community as they fund raise to build a school, bringing hope and total transformation through education.
